Frequently Asked Questions
YouTube campaigns require a video uploaded to the platform, either public or unlisted. If you don’t have one, we can help you create it, following best practices for this type of ad.
There are four main formats you can use in YouTube campaigns:
- In-Stream Ads: These play before, during, or after a video. Depending on your campaign objective, they can be skippable or non-skippable.
- Discovery Ads: These include a thumbnail image and text. When users click, they’re directed to watch your video. They appear in: (1) YouTube search results, (2) related video suggestions, and (3) the YouTube homepage on mobile.
- Bumper Ads: Short ads that play before, during, or after a video. They’re non-skippable and have a maximum duration of 6 seconds.
- Out-Stream Ads: Mobile-only ads that appear on Google video partner sites (not on YouTube). They autoplay without sound.
Similar to Display campaigns, YouTube ads can be targeted based on users’ interests, behaviors, demographics, and geographic locations. You can also target by video content or specific channels where your ads will appear.
Yes, it’s possible. However, since YouTube uses an open auction model, choosing highly popular videos may mean those ad placements are already reserved.
The common recommendation is between 15 to 30 seconds. However, creativity and storytelling have a greater impact than the exact duration.
Some formats do have strict time limits—for example, bumper ads must be 6 seconds or less.
